National Simultaneous Storytime in K-6D

Posted on

Today we participated in National Simultaneous Storytime along with the rest of our school and many others across the country. The organisation even offers an Auslan version so students can watch the story being read by someone else! Some of the other classes in our school also watched the story, The Cow Tripped Over the Moon, in Auslan to broaden their understanding of Auslan grammar and storytelling.

Oz Opera

Today all of our students attended the Oz Opera performance at our school. Opera Australia provided shadow interpreters for the show so that our students could access the same story that all children experience. We are so grateful for these opportunities and would like to thank Mrs Riding for organising the show at our school. We also love that Opera Australia and Deaf Children Australia work together to provide these opportunities for children!

The show, El Kid, was amazing and K-6D students were mesmerised the whole time. They got involved and felt the same feelings that the characters were presenting by singing to their friends or teachers throughout the play.

Mass

We started our week of measuring mass by experimenting with different objects and trying to find ways to balance two things by changing the amounts used. The students were engaged and began to develop an understanding of mass and how to discuss it using the right language.
